Aviva plc, one of the world’s leading insurance companies, has over 30,000 employees around the globe. Simply Communicate’s Marc Wright recently reported on how they are successfully connecting and engaging this large, globally dispersed team.
According to Jon Hawkins, the leader of Aviva’s global internal communications, the company has a clear strategy and a clear set of values. “We know what we want the business to be doing and the story we need to tell.” But how to do that when over half of your employees are spread around the world?
Answer: Upgrade Aviva World, the Aviva employee portal that has been in place for many years. Now it has an updated SharePoint 2013 engine, Lync/Skype for Business, and live and on demand video streaming.
Visible leadership through video
Video streaming has become an important tool to help them achieve communication goals with the global Aviva team. Aviva streams sessions with the Group Executive and other senior leaders, communications to explain the nuances of the Friends Life acquisition, and other important messages. Live sessions are interactive, with moderated questions fielded by executives.
“Our senior team have really embraced video streaming – once they could see the impact of sharing key issues with employees and getting immediate feedback,” said Mhairi McClaren, Head of Global Digital Channels.
